Rushing water downstream,
Silent winds across the hills,
Birds chirping with joy,
Laughter in the air,
Children teasing their grandma,
Oblivious of the danger,
Mothers preparing pots,
Peaceful day ahead,
Or so we hope.
Yesterday it was our neighbouring village,
Today it might be us,
Women raped and killed brutally,
Children left to guard their mother’s corpses,
A sad scene to imagine.
But we live today with hope,
we cannot be imprisoned by fear,
Today might be out last day,
How about living it with hope.
Atrocities have been committed,
Humanity defilled,
Selfishness upheld,
That’s our world today,
But if I die today,
In my next life,
I want to be birthed in a barren land,
Then my children will enjoy peace.
